NBFUR President, Cecile Cassista, took her fight for better life for seniors to the municipal level. She was one of 8 candidates running for three at large seats on the Riverview Municipal Council. Her campaign focused on a number of priority areas that are strong values and principles for her and the community. Some of the specific commitments include: economic growth and development, tourism, promoting Riverview – Shop Riverview, public spending, engagement for discussion between citizens’ business community and members of council and affordable housing.

After a strong campaign, she finished second and thereby won a seat on the new council. The election   of three women to the council including that of mayor was historic for the Moncton region. The newly elected mayor, Ann Seamans, served as the liaison for the Town of and Riverview Seniors Roundtable which was chaired by Cecile since 2006 and a co- founder of the group.

In addition to her new role in the community involvement Cecile will continue to advocate for seniors as a volunteer to advance seniors policy in New Brunswick and continue to represent the New Brunswick Federation of Union Retirees as President.
