Moncton – The New Brunswick Federation of Union Retirees has elected an interim President, Cecile Cassista, to its organization.

Under the affiliation of the Congress of Union Retirees of Canada, the New Brunswick Federation will be engaging union retirees of the province to get ready to take on the challenge of issues relating to seniors in the province. A working group has been formed to connect with all retirees who live in the province.

Cecile Cassista says that she “looks forward to the challenge as we build the organization at the same time preparing for the upcoming provincial election. With an aging population, we need to bring together all groups to effectively pressure politicians to ensure seniors’ policies are created with a vision to move forward”.

Ms Cassista, is presently the Executive Director for the Coalition for Seniors’ and Nursing Home Residents’ Rights and said, ‘I will continue working for the Coalition while heading up the new group. We all need to work together in these trying times”.

Cassista added, “It is extremely important that politicians get the message that the aging population will be regrouping to take on issues that matter to them the most. Many improvements have been made since the formation of the Coalition, but we need to ensure that home support and aging in place and other related issues are addressed so that seniors of the province can live with respect and dignity”.

“We have already made several connections with many retirees and will use similar strategies when the Coalition was formed six years ago to get our message out. Programs affecting seniors in this province need to reflect what other provinces enjoy. After all, seniors are the ones who have built this country” said Cassista.
