CURC’s 12th Constitutional Convention

The 12th Constitutional Convention of the Congress of Union Retirees was held June 24 – 26, 2015 at the Unifor Family Education Centre in Port Elgin, ON. The 150 people present heard speakers address issues of dementia, the coming federal election, pharmacare, Quebec’s Bill 3, Canadian economy and young workers. The policy paper on pharmacare and the resolutions passed are found on CURC web site along with photos from the Convention. The CURC magazine in 2016 will contain coverage of what the speakers said. The officers elected by the Convention were: President – Pat Kerwin, Vice-Presidents – Len Hope and Doug MacPherson, Secretary – Maureen King, Treasurer – Lucienne Bahuaud, Members-At- Large – Louisette Hinton and Janice Gairey.

Crowne agreement signed; boycott ends

United Steelworkers District 6 Director Marty Warren and Staff Representative Lawrence Hay report that the boycott of Crown Metal Packaging and Carnival Cruises has ended with the signing of a new collective agreement.

Seniors Vote sends a message

A coalition of seniors’ organizations – including CURC – which represents more than two million voters is determined to put retirees’ issues on the agenda for the federal election.
