Manitoba seniors lobby for improved pension plans

Following up CURC’s national submission to Federal Minister of Finance Jim Flaherty, The Manitoba Federation of Union Retirees wrote Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger, Finance Minister Rosann Wowchuk, and Labour Minister Jennifer Howard to support increases in the CPP and QPP.

“For many of our retirees in their 80’s and 90’s, this pension fight seems to go on forever vytorin dosage. Finally all governments seem to get the message that their children and grandchildren are going to be affected, as well as future generations. Thanks to governments like yours this issue is finally every political party’s issue – thank you. Your federal colleagues must also be thanked for fighting the good fight,” wrote MFUR President Al Cerilli.

“Retirees in Canada drawing from a workplace pension plan and public pension plans continue to contribute to the economy. Enhanced public pensions and their portability will ensure future generations the right to retire in dignity.”

The MFUR participated in a public rally with others in the labour movement for improved public pensions outside the Premiers meeting in Winnipeg August 4, 2010.
