Sarnia CURC joins Idle No More protesters

Ted Hext (right), President of the Sarnia Area Council of CURC and Herb John, President of National Pensioners Federation and National Executive Board of UNIFOR Retired Workers, joined Idle No More protesters from Walpole Island, other First Nations and surrounding communities. They held events on both sides of the border on Saturday October 26, 2013. Beginning with a sunrise ceremony on Walpole Island and then taking the ferry to Harsens Island Michigan, they raised awareness of the ongoing problem with chemical spills into the St. Clair River by the petro-chemical industry in Sarnia’s Chemical Valley. In Michigan they were joined by protesters from numerous Michigan communities. Organizers Theo Blackbird-John and Dan Deleary also want to build solidarity between First Nations communities and their neighbours in order to protect the water, air and land.
